What does this mean for Bob's team? Right now he is fighting for a division title and #1 seed in the playoffs. He's the favorite to win a second straight title. But how does this injury affect his long-term plans?
Bob probably was thinking of keeping Strasburg, but this could change things. It's his second DL trip in three months. He already has Cole Hamels locked up next year. And he has plenty of hitting options.
Bob will probably soon see a message to the extent of "Stephen Strasburg has been cut by 2,340 teams." Bob may not want to keep Strasburg, but he may not want to cut him either.
If Bob cuts Strasburg, he runs the risk of another team picking him up as a keeper for next year.
If Bob doesn't cut him, he runs the risk of wasting a spot on his bench during the playoffs. During a two-week championship match, that could prove to be vital, especially with the two-move-per-week limit this year.
Right now, Nelson Cruz is the only player of Bob's on the DL. What if he gets another injury? Does Strasburg go? It's something to keep an eye on and will be interesting to see how it plays out.
