A closer look at the Match of the Week

As of about noon on Thursday, Bob leads Joe 9-7 in a huge matchup. More so for Bob than Joe, but still big nonetheless.

If Joe wins, it will all but knock Bob out of contention for a division title. If Bob wins, we have a three (and maybe four) way race.

But this has another storyline attached to it, and I'm not talking about a battle between housemates.

Find out after the jump.

The winner of this matchup also has an inside track for Manager of the Year.

If Bob ends up winning the division, it'd be hard to see him not getting the award for the turnaround he's led his team on.

If Joe wins - remember he also won last year's division and championship - it will be quite an accomplishment, one of unprecedented sorts. He is looking to become the first repeat division champion in league history.

Of course, Jack is also a Manager of the Year candidate, but his division title won't be as impressive as the Tug McGraw Division winner, given the fierce competition.

But, back to the matchup, which Bob curiously declared over (in Joe's favor) after one day. Neither team is hitting the ball real well, and it seems the matchup could come down to whichever team has a hotter weekend at the plate.

Michael Bourn has five stolen bases and is outplaying Nyjer Morgan on the basepaths. But Morgan is hitting .500 this week and has been huge for Joe's team. I've even heard chatter that Joe thinks he may be the second-half MVP.

"He has added a boost to the team," Joe said of Morgan.

Since adding Morgan, Joe is 4-0. Probably not a coincidence.

Should be an exciting final four days. It'll be interesting to see how the managers adjust and react as we get into the weekend.

  1. I'm on vacation and I'm out on a whole 16, hitting a great tee shot to put me within 2 feet of the pin on a par 3. I'm approaching the green ready to sink my birdie put and I get a bbm from andy that says you cant be happy with the brewers score right now. I looked and blew me give me of a putt and had to settle for a par. Oy vey!
