I didn't want to post my thoughts in the other thread because I went back and forth on this one, and didn't want to influence people when I didn't feel strongly one way or the other.
ReplyDeleteBut ultimately I voted no because, although, written as is it seems fair for someone to be cut, I viewed the mitigating circumstance as an off-the-field injury, such as Jeff Kent's motorcycle ride.
We had decided this past offseason to put a high premium on keepers (with the $20 fee AND loss of draft pick for a trade), so I did not treat that any differently when voting for Chris and Jack to keep someone.
This is a subjective process and it's how each manager views the rule. This will need to be re-evaluated in the offseason, obviously.
Nonetheless, I wouldn't have minded if the final vote was yes or no because an argument could easily be made both ways.
