Like the previous topic I'll let the person who proposed this chime in and make his arguments. However, I feel it's necessary to say this was a topic last year as well that was shot down (link below) so if it again is shot down we will wait at least a year to revisit, if at all.

I proposed adding a 4th keeper. I've had this view for quite some time. I just think it would balance everything out if we kept 2 pitchers and 2 hitters. I think the teams are good enough to warrant keeping an extra guy, so I don't think there would be any problems there. I also think it would add to the keeper strategy since you would have an additional guy to decide how long you want to keep them for. As the pro's said last year, it would definitely add to the fun deciding who else you want to keep. It would also put more of an emphasis on pitching in a hitting leaning league.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with this. A 4th Keeper means 12 more players that are locked up...especially with all the penalties and stipulations for trading/cutting keepers. We already don't have enough trades in this league...this would only enhance that.
ReplyDeleteMy two cents.
Agree with Shea.
ReplyDeleteI also like the way it is now, in which each manager must decide whether to keep 2 hitters or 2 pitchers. This way, each teams keepers aren't so cut and dry which leads the draft to go in many directions.
Example: Everyone has 2 kept hitters and pitchers, so unless a manager wants to stack their pitching, I generally see most top ranked players going off 1 by 1. While if a manager has 2 hitters and 1 pitcher, said manager might have to reach for a pitcher earlier then he wants which shakes up everyones draft.
Kind of rambled on that one, but it makes sense...I think.
I vote no. As with Shea I believe that too many players would be locked up, killing the draft's first few rounds in my opinion...on the other topics I am all for a fee increase to 100 as this is obviously a premier/highly competitive league and warrants high stakes..last place fee should be paid by regular season loser to prevent tanking and to punish inactivity during the longevity of the regular season, plus once nthe season ends and you're not in the playoffs, personally I don't care about my team playing the losers bracket and only pay attention to the real playoffs....focker out
ReplyDeleteOne point of clarification please, and this is important for it looks like this is coming to a vote.
ReplyDeleteWhile I too am opposed to adding a 4th player - my question is how will the rule be drafted relative to when does this become effective?
If it passes (which hopefully it will not) - it is my view that this should not be effective until the 2013 season (to keep players from your 2012 roster into 2013).
My reasonong for this is that we all drafted and managed our teams in 2011 with the belief that we had 3 keepers for 2012.
Some of us may have 4 keepers to keep for 2012, others may not and shouldn't be unduly impaired for not necessarily having a good 4th option. Getting a 4th could have been part of their strategy late in the 2011 season if they knew 4 keepers would become the law for the 2012 season.

Yes, would not go into effect until 2013.
ReplyDeleteAgree with all points made AGAINST adding a 4th keeper. Requiring 2-and-1 is a key element of our keeper league on which each manager bases his team strategy for the season.
ReplyDeleteAlso agree with if we do add a 4th keeper, it goes into effect in 2013 as confirmed by the Commissioner.

I think adding a 4th keeper could be a solid move. 2 hitters 2 batters. lets see this go to vote. needs to be 2013
