2013 winter meetings: Topic 1 - increasing total moves in season

Happy Winter Meetings, everyone!

Good news for those of you who don't care: We only have 1 topic on the agenda, and then we get to move onto the fun stuff, such as realignment and keeper declaration. So let's get onto it.

2013 Winter Meetings Topic 1: Increase max moves per season.
We raised this from 45 to 50 last offseason, and there is an agenda item to have this raised from 50 to 55 this offseason. Here is the person's pitch: "A lot of us went to the limit or close again. With 3 moves per week, it's hard to abuse the max moves still."

Here is the link to last year's discussion

Note that this is NOT about weekly moves per week, which is 3. This is about total moves per season. Email me back your YES or NO, please.

Change needed: Eight votes.

  1. Looking at the moves last year, every manager except Rick went over 30 moves and 6 managers had 43 or more moves. Being that close to the limit definitely could bring up the argument that it would have been more moves had the limit been 55. With 25 weeks in the season (including playoffs), 55 moves is just over 2 moves per week.

  2. Considering, that I actually used all fifty moves, I would favor an increase in the maximum moves per season. Especially in the playoffs having roster flexibility is critical, when teams begin to rest players and pitchers are called up for spot starts. I thought that I used by moves strategically and still ran out of roster additions. I don’t think it’s an indication of a poor draft as players, because picking up players is simply part of fantasy. I believe the yahoo default is 6 player additions per week with no season maximum, so 3 player additions per week with 55 maximum seems reasonable to me.

  3. I think this vote is over anyway, but...

So what happens next year when the majority of the league members pushes the 55 move max? Do we have to raise it again?

I think we are at a solid number now, not to high, not to low. But a good number that makes you think about all moves you are considering. Especially early in the season, when you have to decide if the move is worth it enough to lose one you may need late in the season or for the playoffs.
