However, Wednesday's trade that sent Derrek Lee to the Braves was one of the rare cases where it was win-win for two of our managers.
Let's take a look at how and why this trade helps out Hal and Chris as we prepare for the very stretch run and playoffs.
Chris had been keeping Troy Glaus rotting on his bench for a long time, debating whether or not to cut him. Now that Lee has been traded to the Braves, Glaus (who was placed on the disabled list) sees his playing time reduced, giving Chris reason to cut him.
He already did, picking up Coco Crisp.
"Lee getting traded to the Braves was a blessing in a tall, lanky black disguise," an ecstatic Chris said.
Hal was also very pleased with the deal. He thinks Lee is in a better lineup and will be rejuvenated in a pennant race. It was a miserable time playing in Wrigley Field for the dreadful Cubs.
"He was useless pretty much in Chicago from a fantasy standpoint," Hal said. "Right before Lee missed time due to a bulging disc, he'd caught fire for about three or four games. So if he carries that over to Atlanta he'll be a catalyst, no doubt about it."
