All complaints should be sent to the commissioner. Team record in parenthesis, and previous week's ranking follows the slash.
1. Goldschmember (7-1) / 1 - All good things must come to an end, and Chris' dream of perfection is over. Finally.
2. The Allen Websters (4-4) / 7 - Hal has won three straight, four of five, and just romped the undefeated team. Yeah, I'd say he's the #2 team right now.
3. Ahh Herro-o (5-3) / 3 - Matt Kemp was finally booed off the field last week by fans of the D's - Dodgers and Dave.
4. Suck Peddlers (5-3) / 2 - Joe's franchise "glue" guys (Greinke, Kennedy, Pence) all let him down last week.
5. Cole Miners (4-4) / 5 - Stunning stat of the week: Despite leading league in ERA, Bob has only won the category twice this season.
6. Give Sosa a Chance! (5-3) / 6 - Did Shea deserve to win last week? Nope. Did Shea win last week? Yep, and that's all that counts.
7. Los Pollos Hermanos (4-4) / 4 - On the eighth week of the season, my true love gave to me: Three starters injured, two
more hitters DL'ed and a catcher on the bereavement list.
8. Backdoor Slider (4-4) / 9 - Back-to-back 10-9 wins gets Ken right back into the thick of the division race.
9. Fireballs (3-5) / 11 - After blowing late leads the last couple weeks, Rick holds on for a huge and impressive win over Joe.
10. Nyjer Please (3-5) / 8 - Brutal schedule coming up for Mike: Opponents' combined win percentage over next five weeks is .650.
11. Billy Ball (3-5) / 10 - B.J. Upton's 0-for-3, 3K night on Sunday costs Jack a win. Could have been avoided had he benched him, too.
12. TurnThisShitArounndd (1-7) / 12 - So... who's going to be at the top of the draft board in the 2014?
Was the ranking for Hal determined pre- or post-hosing of Bob in that trade?
ReplyDeleteThe trade is not yet official, so PRs were done without it factored in.
ReplyDeleteCare to elaborate? I think the trade was completely even. I gave up an SP3/4 for a 25-30 HR bat (which I desperately needed) and an SP5. Hal needed pitching, I needed hitting, simple as that.
ReplyDeleteSure thing. To begin, calling Cobb a SP3/4 is laughable at this point in the season. I am not sure if you rank him that relative to your team or according to the Rays depth chart pre-season/currently; however, either way, that only serves to devalue him when his numbers certainly make him a SP1/2. As for Moreland being a 25-30 home run bat, while he certainly is on pace to finish up in that range, he hasn't come close to that in years past (yes I get that he did not have regular PT - regardless, it hasn't happened once in his career so let's not call it a sure thing just yet k?) And now Beachy. I am a fan of the guy. Was great 2 years ago. Coming off TJ surgery, having only pitched approx. 200 innings in his career, there is no doubt he will be monitored closely and treated with baby gloves. To count on any kind of meaningful production is naive. Those guys tend to be brought along slowly (i.e., J. Zimmerman). With the significant injury plus potential for setbacks and a probable innings cap, I don't see him being worth a whole helluva lot.
ReplyDeleteReally I just wish I knew that was the price for Cobb, I would have just picked up Dan Uggla (hitting criteria met) and tossed in Ivan Nova as the SP5.
Uggla is batting .280 with 10 HRs, damn, I guess I should go pick him up then if he's still available. I didn't realize that Uggla was just entering his prime too. Like you said, he was never given a full time job before and now he has that opportunity. He is currently on pace for 40 HRs and looking at his advanced stats, there is nothing out of the ordinary to expect him to digress substantially. So I put a more conservative estimate of 25-30, which I think is very fair if he gets to 500 ABs, which is likely. I also understand Beachy is coming off Tommy John but he should be back in 2 weeks and is pitching in the pitiful NL East. 8-10 W with a 3.50 ERA and 1.20 WHIP wouldn't be an off-base prediction for him. Plus they expect to be in a race with Washington all year, so I'm sure they will let him pitch since he's not in his lower 20's anymore. As for Cobb, I'm a big fan but since I have Kershaw, CC, J Zimm, and Anibal Sanchez I can afford to give him up. Also, if you look at his advanced stats, he is pitching out of his mind right now. Career bests in BABIP and LOB% do not bode well for rest of season numbers. Also his FIP is more than a run higher than his ERA, so I have my doubts. Also, Cobb is ranked as the 22nd best pitcher in the last month. How is that exactly SP1 status?
ReplyDeleteThrow out whatever numbers you would like to justify the trade, your team, not mine. Even though I disagree with the estimates you give, my point was that it seemed like Cobb was extremely undervalued for no sure things in return. As for Cobb being the 22nd best SP and SP1 status, I am pretty damn sure if you put him on any team in this league he would be one of the top SP's, the guy has been solid every outing. Just my two cents on the deal.
