Assessing the draft: Cole Miners
(Editor's note: This is the latest in a series of posts briefly breaking down each team's draft. It will culminate in the debut of the 2010 Power Rankings at the end.)
The defending champ is back and looking for another. It's been a quiet offseason for Bob, as he has been wrapped up in the team's accounting after last season's title. Season-ticket sales are at an all-time high and he's been busy crunching real numbers. But baseball season is here, and that should get his attention back into the fantasy game.
Focus: Hitting. Man, can these boys smack the ball. Yes, the Miners took Jon Lester with their first live pick, but after that it was a feeding frenzy on hitting. His next three picks will combine for about 100 homers. Add that to Braun and Fielder and that's some scary-good power.
Storyline: Bob was destined for the draft lottery after the first few weeks last year. He was self-critical of his draft, in which he completely neglected pitching, and he was struggling to win games. Then came the big trade and things turned around. So we were interested to see which route he would go this year.
Headscratcher: Drafting Stephen Strasburg. Will Bob be willing to keep him on the bench for two months? Is Bob thinking about keeping him for next year when he already has a pitcher locked up? Is he trade bait? There's tons of unanswered questions to this draft pick that we won't be getting answers to anytime soon.
